Susan Sykes was a dear friend, my older hermana. My party buddy and confidant; we were co-workers and housemates for a bit. By the time they diagnosed her breast cancer in April of 2005, it had already spread. The prognosis was grim, and they opted for aggressive treatment. First Night 2009
This was an event that included an amazing amount of great music, fabulous energy and lots of smiles celebrating the new year! Interestingly, I had been laid off from the Downtown Tucson Partnership in June 2008, and then they hired me as a freelance talent booker for First Night in October 2008. Austin City Limits Festival: 2004
I had a fantastic opportunity to go to this festival and took it! Bonus: my sis Lee, who was working as "Pressie Galore" for Bloodshot Records at the time, was able to score me a photo pass and VIP access. It was absolutely fantastic, except for the intense humidity and coming down with bronchitis upon returning to Tucson. Nevertheless, I got some cool shots of Calexico while in the photo pit.
