Merle though the Years

Merle though the Years

Our bright-eyed, waggy-tailed fur baby was sweetness personified, exuberant, funny, fun, silly, quirky, and so very very cute! Merle loved his pack, his human friends, travelling, hiking and road trips. He was our adventure-seeking travel companion who enjoyed jaunts to Ocean Beach, and our cross-county excursions to Minnesota and Wisconsin. For the last 10 years, he lived with Valley Fever and patiently accepted us shoving fluconazole down his throat daily. As he aged, galliprant was added to … [Read more...]

Merle

We are devastated to report that Merle came to the end of his journey on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 9:45 a.m. Our bright-eyed, waggy-tailed fur baby was sweetness personified, exuberant, funny, fun, silly, quirky, and so very very cute! Merle loved his core pack, his human friends, travelling, hiking, and road trips. He was our party buddy, our adventure-seeking travel companion who enjoyed jaunts to Ocean Beach and our cross-county excursions to Minnesota and Wisconsin. For the last 10 … [Read more...]

Songs for Susan

Susan Sykes was a dear friend, my older hermana. My party buddy and confidant; we were co-workers and housemates for a bit. It was really hard on her, and four months later she succumbed. Working with Maebelle Reed of Plush, Jill Ahearn of the Tucson Weekly, and seven local venues, we created the Songs for Susan benefit event. She didn't live to … [Read more...]

UA Student’s Project Captures Tucson’s Linguistic Diversity

(Published by UANews.org on April 28, 2017)  Christian Ruvalcaba launched the Language Capital Project to map where native speakers of non-national languages gather. It serves as a resource for new residents to connect with established immigrants and refugees. Inspired by Tucson's Nur Market on Speedway Boulevard, and by his doctoral coursework and his immigrant experience, UA second language acquisition and teaching student Christian Ruvalcaba launched the Language Capital … [Read more...]

Betsy Fest Dec 2018

Daniel & I (+ Merle!) drove up to Santa Fe in December 2018 to support our friend Elizabeth's Betsy Fest. The wildly successful event was created to harness love and funds to cover Betsy's healing for battling stage IV lung & brain cancer. There was so much amazing love & support! This was an incredible night of mind-blowing live music, that also featured a giant silent auction with fabulous items, and great times with lots of groovy people! There were six bands that … [Read more...]
